Privacy Policy

Fable Privacy Policy

Fable is built to be privacy-first and local-first. Your moments are primarily stored on your device, with optional iCloud sync where supported. We do not sell your data or use your private journal content for advertising.

Effective date: 15/04/2026
Last updated: 15/04/2026

Fable (“Fable”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Fable handles your information when you use the Fable mobile application and any related services.

Fable is designed with privacy in mind. Your moments, recordings, text entries, photos, and related content are intended to remain under your control.

1. Who we are

Fable is provided by the developer of the app:

J. McGuire
jack_mcguire3@icloud.com

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, you can contact the developer at jack_mcguire3@icloud.com.

2. What Fable does

Fable is a personal journaling and memory-capture app that allows you to create and store moments, including written content, voice recordings, tags, photos, timeline data, and related information.

3. Information we collect

The information handled by Fable depends on how you use the app.

A. Content you create in the app

Fable may process and store content you choose to add, such as:

  • journal or moment text
  • titles and notes
  • voice recordings
  • photos you attach
  • tags, categories, and timeline information
  • dates and metadata associated with your entries

This content is primarily stored on your device.

B. Subscription and purchase information

If you subscribe to Fable Pro or make purchases through Apple’s App Store, we may receive limited subscription status information through our subscription service provider in order to unlock paid features and manage entitlements.

We do not receive your full payment card details.

C. Diagnostic or technical data

We may receive limited technical or diagnostic information necessary to keep the app functioning, fix bugs, and improve reliability. This may include:

  • app version
  • device type
  • operating system version
  • crash information
  • basic subscription status events

We do not use this information to build advertising profiles.

4. How your data is stored

Fable is designed to be local-first.

This means that, by default, your content is stored locally on your device.

If you enable supported sync features, your content may also be stored in your personal iCloud account using Apple’s services. In that case, Apple acts as the provider of that storage and sync infrastructure under Apple’s own terms and privacy policies.

We do not operate our own central database of your private journal content unless explicitly stated in a future version of the service.

5. iCloud sync

If iCloud sync is enabled in Fable Pro or another supported version of the app:

  • your content may sync across your Apple devices using your iCloud account
  • the availability and security of iCloud services are governed by Apple
  • you are responsible for the security of your Apple ID and iCloud account

We do not have direct access to your Apple ID credentials.

6. Photos, microphone, and speech access

Photos

If you allow photo access, Fable can let you attach photos to your moments.

Microphone

If you allow microphone access, Fable can record audio for voice-based moments.

Speech-related features

If you use speech-related functionality, audio or derived text may be processed using Apple-provided system frameworks and features available on your device, depending on your device settings and OS capabilities.

You can manage these permissions at any time through your device settings.

7. Subscriptions and third-party services

Fable may use trusted third-party service providers to operate specific parts of the app.

These may include:

Apple

Used for App Store distribution, payments, device permissions, and optional iCloud sync.

RevenueCat

Used to manage subscription status, entitlements, and purchase restoration.

These providers may process limited data as necessary for their services. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policies and terms.

8. How we use information

We use information only where needed to:

  • provide the app’s core functionality
  • save and display your moments
  • sync content where enabled
  • manage subscriptions and restore purchases
  • improve app stability and performance
  • diagnose crashes and fix bugs
  • comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data.

We do not use your private journal content for advertising.

We do not intentionally read your private content except where necessary to investigate a support issue you have specifically asked us to help with, and only to the extent technically possible and permitted.

9. Legal basis for processing

If you are in the UK or EEA, our legal bases for processing may include:

  • performance of a contract — to provide the app and its features
  • legitimate interests — to maintain, secure, and improve the app
  • consent — where permissions are requested for photos, microphone, or similar device access
  • legal obligation — where processing is required by law

10. Data sharing

We do not share your personal content with third parties except:

  • where necessary to provide services you use, such as Apple or RevenueCat
  • where required by law, regulation, legal process, or government request
  • where necessary to protect rights, safety, or the integrity of the app
  • in connection with a business transfer, merger, acquisition, or sale, subject to appropriate safeguards

11. Data retention

Because Fable is primarily local-first, your content usually remains on your device or in your iCloud account until you delete it.

Subscription and limited technical records may be retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the app, manage purchases and entitlements, resolve disputes, and comply with legal, tax, or accounting obligations.

12. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights relating to your personal data, including the right to:

  • request access to personal data we hold about you
  • request correction of inaccurate data
  • request deletion of personal data
  • object to or restrict certain processing
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

Because Fable is designed so that most private content stays on your device or in your personal iCloud account, requests relating to locally stored content may in many cases be best handled directly by deleting content within the app, uninstalling the app, or managing your iCloud data through Apple.

13. Children’s privacy

Fable is not knowingly intended for children under the age of 13, or under the minimum digital consent age in your country where higher.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe a child has provided personal information inappropriately, please contact us.

14. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information related to the operation of Fable. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.

You are also responsible for keeping your device, Apple ID, and iCloud account secure where applicable.

15. International transfers

Third-party providers we rely on, such as Apple or RevenueCat, may process limited data in countries outside your own. Where applicable, those providers are responsible for implementing appropriate safeguards for international transfers under their own compliance frameworks.

16. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and may provide additional notice where appropriate.

Your continued use of Fable after any update becomes effective means you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
